Geotechnical emergency response

Geotechnical emergency response

Continuous monitoring of potential failures in open pits and waste dumps, set up at short notice, with recommendations on how to respond. Found mining-induced cracks on a pit slope or a dump? We will put them under monitoring as fast as possible

How we work

Here is what we do and in what order:

  1. 1

We send you a commercial proposal

    same day
  2. 2

Our engineers travel to the site on the basis of a letter of guarantee (after a counterparty check)

    2–3 days
  3. 3

We start monitoring with automated portable NUR extensometers (more about the extensometer)

    3–4 days
  4. 4

We carry out a geomechanical survey of the deformation and fill in the deformation record

    3–4 days
  5. 5

We identify the likely causes of the deformation and the gaps in what is known about the deforming area

    3–4 days
  6. 6

We carry out additional field investigations

    3–5 days
  7. 7

We hold a video conference between the client and our senior engineers to agree on response measures, and we develop measures to minimize the consequences of a potential failure

    4–5 days
  8. 8

We forecast how the deformation will develop and justify the critical deformation parameters

    4–5 days
  9. 9

We prepare a final report covering steps 2–8

    2 weeks
  10. 10

We support the monitoring: we set up alerts for when critical parameters are exceeded, predict the time of failure, report on how the deformation is developing and give you online access to displacement and velocity charts

    6 months
Notes:The service is available only if we have extensometers in stock, the site has mobile coverage, and an extensometer can be installed to monitor the deformation. It includes installation of one extensometer and six months of monitoring with it.
